I cleaned carpets for many years in the field, starting in 1985. After years of cleaning (about a decade) I began to experience intestinal difficulties and at one point even suffered appendicitis. Not that the condition is necessarily uncommon, but I was the only person that I knew of that ever had this condition known including family etcetera. Looking over the MSDS from the primary cleaning chemical that I was using. It stated that one of the hazardous ingredients listed was know to cause difficulties with the digestive system. I had also been experiencing an arthritic like condition in my right hand which was continuously doused with this chemical while cleaning.
Once I suffered from the attack and recovered from the surgery, I went on to pursue “green cleaning solutions”, reading the MSDS’s and skipping any hype the MSDS’s told the story - all of them had toxic and or carcinogenic chemicals. Even the so called orange peal based solvents, once refined to such a degree were as toxic as their petroleum based counterparts or nearly so.
